About CAPE
CAPE (Confident. Aware. Protected. Empowered.) is a youth-centered sexual health education curriculum developed by The HARNESS Project. It brings the same trauma-informed, pleasure-positive, and LGBTQ+ inclusive principles that make HARNESS education transformational to young people aged 4-19.
Rather than repeating fear-based, shame-driven models of traditional sex education, CAPE empowers youth to make informed decisions about their bodies, relationships, and sexuality. The curriculum is grounded in the same MATCH Framework (Medications, Awareness, Tools, Communication, Habits) that serves adults, but adapted with language, examples, and activities appropriate for youth development.
CAPE acknowledges that young people are sexual beings with valid emotions, desires, and the right to knowledge and safety. The curriculum meets youth where they are, providing practical decision-making tools for the real situations they faceβfrom first crushes to navigating peer pressure to understanding consent.
Core Principles
π‘οΈ Trauma-Informed
Recognizes youth experiences with trauma and creates psychologically safe learning environments where all young people can feel secure and respected
π₯ Pleasure-Positive
Acknowledges that pleasure is natural and healthy, not something to be ashamed of, and celebrates joyful embodiment
π LGBTQ+ Inclusive
Celebrates diverse identities, bodies, and relationship structures with full representation and authentic inclusion
π₯ Youth-Centered
Designed specifically for adolescent development with age-appropriate content, language, and delivery methods
